The Deepsea by Rolex Sea-Dweller is the brand’s new hidden edition this year. Although Rolex did not mention this model during the presentation of the new model at the show, the external specifications of the watch have actually been readjusted, as if it were an upgraded version of the Deepsea. The new Deepsea model is the 136660, with the same case material and dimensions of stainless steel and 44mm, the same water resistance and movement of 3,900 metres and 3235 calibre, but if you have a chance to compare the old 126660 with the new 136660, you will find the following innovations on the latter:
1. a thinner unidirectional rotating bezel – Rolex has adopted a new bezel design to further optimise its rotation mechanism. 2.
2. the sapphire crystal is more visible – as a result of the thinning of the bezel, the mirror has become more visible and the sapphire edges have been chamfered to give them a sharper, more three-dimensional appearance.
3. the brand’s new RLX titanium caseback and thinner bezel. 4. the sapphire crystal.
4. The sapphire crystal is coated with anti-reflective coating to make the dial look clearer.
5. The Glidelock extension system on the bracelet removes the original OYSTER folding clasp for a smoother chain extension process.
6. The date window and date disc on the dial are enlarged by about 8% to enhance readability.
7. The Chromalight luminescent material on the hour markers and hands has been optimised to emit a brighter and longer-lasting luminescence.
In addition to the above seven detailed adjustments, it is also important to explain the D-Blue dial, which is exclusive to the Ghost King. In fact, when the Deepsea was first launched in 2008, it was only available in black, and the reason for the gradation from blue to black was in fact inspired by the Deepsea Challenge expedition that director James Cameron undertook with Rolex and the National Geographic Society in 2012. It was inspired by the Deepsea Challenge expedition that director James Cameron undertook with Rolex and the National Geographic Society in 2012. The two-tone dial fades from bright blue to deep black to commemorate James Cameron’s success in reaching the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on Earth, which gave rise to Rolex’s only gradient-coloured dial.
