Rolex produced more than just a stainless steel version of the ref. 6542. The brand also produced an all-18k yellow-gold version with a burgundy bezel. Rolex watch this model with two different dials; the first is the burgundy version that you see in the pictures. The second one is a lighter champagne dial. In addition, the handset is also different compared to the steel model. The gold version features classically styled Alpha hands instead of Mercedes’s hands.
Rolex used the 1565 automatic movement in the earliest versions until about 1965 or 1966 when later versions switched to the 1575 movement. When it comes to the dial, there is a clear difference between the early gilt dial and the matte black dial that Rolex used from 1966-67. There are many variations in the text on the dial as far as the different executions are concerned.

The fourth option on this list is the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710. This model introduces a reinforced case and Cerachrom bezel insert. The stainless steel model 116710 was introduced in 2007. 116710 was introduced in 2007 and is in production until 2019. However, the stainless steel model was not the first to feature the Cerachrom bezel insert.
